Bank: connecting and expense headings
How to connect a bank account or card so transactions arrive in the program by themselves.
What it gives you
Connect your bank once and every transaction on the account or card arrives in Accounting → Bank by itself: expenses, deposits, transfers. No statements to download, no amounts to type. You can connect several banks and cards.
Connect a bank
- Open Settings → Bank.
- Press + Connect a bank. A secure Plaid window opens — the service US banks use to share data with accounting programs. No Plaid registration is needed.
- Plaid may ask for a phone number. It is optional: if you have connected a bank through Plaid in another app (Venmo, Coinbase…), it offers that bank right away. You can skip it — Continue without phone number (or “Continue as guest”).
- Find your bank in the search (Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo…).
- Sign in with your usual online-banking login. Large banks open their own website or app — sign in there and allow access; you are then brought back to the program.
- Tick the accounts and cards you need and press Confirm / Continue.
- Done: the bank appears under Connected accounts. The first transactions arrive in 1–2 minutes, the full history within an hour.
If Plaid shows the wrong bank
If Plaid offers a bank that is already connected, do not press Confirm — it would be connected twice and transactions would double. Press + Add new account at the bottom and search for the bank you need.
Several banks and cards
- Each bank is connected separately: press + Connect a bank again.
- Credit cards connect too: card purchases arrive as expenses, a card payment from the account as a transfer.
- If one bank has several accounts, tick the ones you need — each becomes its own row in the table.
Where the transactions are
- All transactions are in Accounting → Bank.
- New transactions come in by themselves. Sync now pulls the latest right away.
- Each transaction can be filed under an expense heading (rent, materials, wages…) — by hand or automatically by rules (below).
If the bank asks you to sign in again
Every few months (or after a password change) banks ask to confirm access. The account then shows “The bank asks you to sign in again” and a Sign in again button — press it and sign in. Missed transactions come in by themselves.
Disconnect a bank
- Settings → Bank, the Connected accounts table.
- Press Unlink on the account row and confirm.
- The bank is fully disconnected once every account of it is unlinked. Transactions already pulled stay in the program.
Security
- The bank password is typed only in the bank's or Plaid's window — the program never sees or stores it.
- The program gets read-only access to transactions: it cannot move money or change anything at the bank.
- You can cut access at any time with Unlink.
If something does not work
- “The bank connection is not switched on yet” — write to Support.
- The bank cannot be found or shows an error — send a screenshot to Support.
- US banks are supported.
Expense headings
- Open Settings → Bank — the headings table at the bottom of the page (or “Accounting → Bank → Headings”).
- Groups — the big sections (rent, materials, wages…), + New heading — a specific heading inside a group.
- Give a heading rules: words from the transaction description (for example “Amazon”, “Rent”) — such transactions are filed under the heading automatically.
- Apply rules now — file the transactions already loaded.
